Washington DC
On Wednesday, I will participate in Fulbright Advocacy Day in DC. It’s a nonpartisan attempt to restore funding to American students studying abroad, and international students studying here. Lost in the chaos of the last 6+ weeks: The personal aspects of the so-called pauses.
More than ninety of us - mostly from the East Coast, but representing hundreds of thousands - will be talking to senators and congressional representatives and their staff about the importance of cultural diplomacy or educational exchange.
My own Fulbright experience in August, 1977/78, came fifteen years before my research into White Rose resistance. But Prof. Dr. Albrecht Weber and Dr. Ernst Zrywon both provided a firm foundation for White Rose research. As I translated all those documents, often I could hear their grounded observations.
If you should have the opportunity to study abroad, take it! You will never be the same. In the best possible meaning of those words. Do it! Apply now! Note: Fulbright fellowships are available to community college graduates too. Ivy League is not a requirement! I didn’t attend an Ivy League school.
I will try to live post both here and on BlueSky. Watch for updates.

You don’t have to be a Fulbright to study abroad either! I spent a summer studying abroad & it remains my favorite memory of my post-secondary education.
Good luck in Washington, Denise! I hope you’ll write about it.
